About Drop Your Fork

The idea for Drop Your Fork was conceived in a closed door restaurant in Buenos Aires. My husband and I were visiting two of our children who happened to be living there for a few months. Our hotel introduced us to the closed door restaurants in the city, secret restaurants that are known to an exclusive group, not at all easily identified from the outside of the building.

I started thinking about how many times I’d been in a strange city and would love to have a dinner with others to share experiences about the city. Several of my children have traveled alone and sometimes will call me during dinner, because who wants to eat alone? With a phone call, you are sharing the experience long distance.

There are also so many sales representatives and consultants who travel and find themselves in a strange city with no one to share a meal with. It always feels odd to eat alone, but you’d like to try the wonderful restaurants you’re reading about.

Or maybe you’ve just moved into a new city and haven’t developed any friends yet. With so many restaurants to explore, it would be so nice to be able to share the experience with others.

The concept of Drop Your Fork was born.

We then completed a survey with restaurants to make sure they were willing to test the concept with us, and they were! There are nights with empty tables. Why not use them to welcome new visitors to your city? Set the stage for them to share stories about your city and meet new people.
